During my 4-year-long sabbatical, I got an opportunity to serve in a hospice. These moments were some of the most profound and meaningful of my life.
I sat beside dying men and women as they tried to make peace with their time spent on this planet.
Although everyone’s life story was exclusive, certain regrets surfaced time and time again. We don’t have to wait until it’s too late. We can make our choices now to live fully and make the most out of each opportunity we have.
These top ten regrets expressed by hospice patients can teach us how to start living a better life today:
- I wish I’d been more loving to the people who matter the most.
- I wish I’d been a better spouse, parent, or child.
- I wish I’d not spent so much time working.
- I wish I’d taken more risks.
- I wish I’d been happier and enjoyed life more.
- I wish I’d lived my dream.
- I wish I’d taken more care of myself.
- I wish I’d done more for others.
- I wish I’d chosen work that was meaningful for me.
- I wish I’d traveled more.
Take some time to do what you’re passionate about. It’ll bring you true and everlasting happiness.
NEVER POSTPONE JOY!
Never.
