The Power of Kindness Is Good for You

the power of kindness

We live in a world based on achievement and competition. Many times, we’re looked upon as weak for being too nice. We become cynical, pessimistic, and hard.

Thinking that it’s the only way to survive. What we don’t realize is that we are shaping ourselves into something that isn’t us. Through these barriers, we create to limit ourselves to be open to trust and kindness we’re eliminating the purest qualities of being human.

Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.

Lao Tzu

Kindness is the quality of being friendly, generous, and thoughtful. Affection, gentleness, warmth, concern, and care are words connected with kindness. While kindness has an implication of meaning someone is simple or weak, that isn’t the case. Being kind often needs courage and strength.

I can say this from my personal experience while I was on my 4-year-long sabbatical. I participated in various random acts of kindness that went far to create a better world for me and others. One of the acts transformed my hatred into love for the police forces in my city.

Kindness is a simple concept, yet so impactful. It can make the world a better place. It has the power to drastically improve our well-being as well as that of our families, friends, acquaintances, and strangers.

Every act of kindness generates a ripple effect that spreads from person to person. It’s contagious like a disease in which the outcome is exquisitely beautiful. There’re multiple benefits of kindness:

  • Releases feel-good hormones
  • Eases anxiety
  • Good for your heart
  • Helps you live longer
  • Reduces stress
  • Creates better relationships
  • Fewer negative emotions
  • Boosts self-esteem
  • Better performance

There’re different ways to practice kindness. One way to be kind is to open your mind and be active when you see people in need. A sense of community is created when people are kind to those who need help.

Each act of kindness might seem small, but it’s changing the way we see ourselves, the way we see others, and the way others see us.

There are many ways to be kind and many opportunities to practice. Perhaps kindness is a value that could add more satisfaction to and strengthen your relationships.

Kindness includes being kind to yourself. Do you treat yourself kindly? Do you speak gently and kindly to yourself and take good care of yourself?
