As a mental wellness coach, a lot of friends and random people talk to me about social media addiction and the stress of dealing with negativity that’s available on these social media platforms.
In my perspective, no non-living thing can spread hatred or negativity on its own. Non-living things or technology or social media doesn’t do things on its own. People who use them do.
All the negativity or hatred or bullshit is spread by the people. To a large extent, I mean many times, the outside is the reflection of what’s going inside or what’s been inside.
You can’t escape this environment by quitting social media. It’s in the people who are around you. At most you can stay away from people who you think are toxic. As a temporary and immediate solution, just snooze the toxic people or unfollow them for a while.
Social media is a multi-dimensional universe.
BTW, there’s a lot of good happening around. You may choose what you want to see on social media.
On the other side, what you think is negative or bullshit might be positive and good for someone else. It’s hard to classify. We all have different perspectives based on our upbringing, understanding of life, experience, imagination, and mindset.
Everyone is unique.
Hence, there’s no point in arguing or debating with each other and ultimately breaking up with people with different perspectives. If you want a peaceful life, be yourself and let them be what they want to be. Don’t try and change them. All you can do is have a healthy discussion in person; not on social media.
In a nutshell, there’ll be different types of people and their perspective until the end of time. You can run away from different mediums blaming them for things not working for you.
Accept the reality, and live with it. If you feel stressed out, feel free to speak to someone who can see things differently, or ask for professional help.
Another important point is that not everything that’s on social media is true. Most people just share what they believe or subscribe to. That’s their perspective, choice, and freedom of expression.
You can do your research and make your conclusions. If in doubt, always consult a professional who can guide you.
Quitting social media, TV, newspapers won’t help. It’s an inside job. Finally, remember that beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, and so does ugliness. That might not be true always, but works most of the time.
Keep an open mind. You can’t change people but you can change yourself, and respond to challenging situation in a different fashion.
Well, I ain’t an expert on anything but this is what I feel as per my upbringing, little understanding of life, experience, wisdom, imagination, knowledge of psychology, and mental wellness.
